OUR STORY

Where life takes you

I grew up in Northwest Texas in a little oilfield town called Snyder. It was a thriving little town when I was there growing up, but as the 80's hit and oil prices plummeted, the town struggled to keep up with new developments as there just is not a lot in the area to draw in new business. I graduated high school in 1985 and went into the oilfield following the footsteps of my granddad who owned a very successful oilfield business. It didn't take me long to decide this was not the life I wanted to live, with the ups and downs of the oilfield. Early mornings, late evenings, in the elements of the weather in summer and winter. There had to be a better way. So off to Houston, TX I moved to go to college, get an education, and one of those office jobs everyone brags about. Well short story here, it did not take me long to decide college was not for me! I met a guy at a bar one evening who worked at a chemical plant down in Pasadena, TX and he helped me get a job at one of the chemical plants. When they offered me more money per hour than I had ever made in my life: I jumped on it. Who needed college when I could make this kind of money? So, I thought at the time. I worked in the industry for 35 years for a couple of large companies and just recently retired. It was a great career. I spent 20 years on shift work running and working around some of the most hazardous processes in the world. The thing with shift work is you miss a lot of your kids growing up: Football, Soccer, baseball games, cheerleading, weekend tournaments out of town with the family. That is all just part of working shift work. You do what you have to do to make a living and provide for your family. I did end up going back to college to get a degree in safety so I could finally get off of shift work. I was also a volunteer fire fighter in Deer Park, Tx for 13 years.

In 2006 I took a job down in South Texas with a worldwide chemical company. This is where I met my wife and we decided to open a wedding venue here in south Texas on some property we had purchased. At the time there were very few event centers in the area and we both felt like this was an untapped market. We built it from the ground up and added on as time went. We have spent 15 years running a very successful wedding venue on the weekends and hosting other events during the week, all while I worked at the chemical plant and our kids grew up. So, give credit where credit is due, my wife is responsible for the success of the wedding business with over 500 weddings performed at our venue. We are currently selling that property and moving on to a true retirement life, as I finished up my career on a straight day job working in EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) in 2022. So here we are today wanting to share our Texas way of life with others and hope that you find some our stories useful or helpful to you.
